Since its beginning in 1996, it has become the world leader it its field, assisting millions of readers with information about recreational locations and activities available in Alaska, together with the equipment and skills needed to enjoy the Alaska outdoors.

Readers come to our main site for information unique to the different regions of Alaska, and specific outdoor recreational activities of interest. We cover the entire state, from the tip of the Southeast Panhandle to the Arctic coastline; the towns and villages, the rivers and the mountain ranges. Though our specialties are fishing and hunting, we also cover camping, hiking, boating, recreational cabins and many other activities of interest to the outdoors enthusiast. Our main site also provides details on the equipment needed for the various activities, product reviews, and instructional content designed to benefit both the newcomer and those with extensive outdoors experience. These pages provide ideal ad placement for companies that serve particular regions of the state, or that offer products or services centered around a specific outdoor activity.

The Alaska Outdoor Forums

People want to connect with others that share similar interests, and the Alaska outdoors is a huge draw for many. Our forum community is the largest of its kind on the Internet. We have over 85 forums on topics ranging from fishing to hunting, backcountry skiing, homesteading, flying and much more. The forum community comprises about half Alaska residents and half non-residents, which makes for an excellent mix for folks wanting to talk to Alaskans about Alaska. Discussions are in real-time, and include the ability for members to interact directly with each other. Our few forum rules pertain mostly to respecting each other in a family-friendly environment. Section Advertising

The Alaska Outdoors Supersite is organized into several main sections, based on our state's geography, activities and special interests. Each of these sections contain many pages relating to to the theme of that section. For example, our "Places" section contains pages on the various regions of the state, together with geographical features, highway systems, towns and much more. We do this to help our readers quickly find what they need. The "Home Page" of each of these section receives most of the traffic, and ads placed here get a lot of visibility. Ads placed on the "inside" pages of each section receive highly targeted attention from readers.

Section Sponsor Ads

These ads appear on the "home" page of one of our sections. Simply choose the section where you want your ad to appear, and we will place it there for you. Our section home pages are directly linked from many other places on Outdoors Directory, giving these pages lots of traffic. Section Sponsor ads consist of a graphic ad measuring 300x250 pixels. We work with you to ensure your ad provides useful information for readers, while directing them to your business. If needed, we can construct your ad for you at no additional charge. The ad can include contact information, web address, email, etc.  

General Advertiser Ads

Each of our sections has pages focused on specific items unique to that section, such as locations, gear or activities related to that section. We regularly update these pages, and add new pages to our sections. Advertising on these pages gives you very focused advertising to specific customers who are interested in that particular topic. Advertising on these pages consists of a 300x250 pixel linked graphic ad on the right-hand side of the page. "Linked" means that if a customer clicks on your ad they go to your website or email address (whichever your prefer). In most cases we feature 3-5 ad zones on each page, with ads rotating with each page refresh or visit. "Rotating" means that your ad goes into a pool with ads from other businesses on that page, which are refreshed every time someone visits that page. If you don't have the artwork for the ad, we build it for you at no additional charge.

Forum Sponsor

Forum sponsorship offers some of the best visibility on our entire site. Seen by tens of thousands of people every day, your forum sponsor ad gives you the ultimate in flexibility and visibility. Here's an overview.

The Sponsorship Block

The block where the forum name appears is known as the Sponsorship Block. This area appears at the top of the page in your forum, ensuring that your ad will be seen by everyone visiting that particular forum. We place a 234 x 60 banner ad in the sponsorship block, together with no more than 60 words of ad copy. If you don't have the artwork, our staff can create it for you and once you approve of it, we post it on the site. You are allowed to change your ad verbiage as often as you like; just send us the replacement text and we will have it posted in short order.

Sticky Post

Normally when someone posts in our forums, their post moves down as newer posts are added. We have the ability to "stick" a post so that it remains at the top of the list and is visible to anyone visiting your forum home page. We allow you one "sticky" forum post of unlimited length. It can include both text and graphics, as you choose. Simply post it in your forum, and notify us of it. We will stick it at the top of the list. You are allowed to change the verbiage in this sticky as often as you like, making your sticky an ideal place to post sales, trip reports, discounts and other promotions of interest.

Ongoing Promotion

We encourage our forum sponsors to answer questions related to their business in their forum. Discretion should be used in order to prevent turning your forum into a billboard, however we do allow you to promote your business in your forum. Forum Sponsorship is the only opportunity members have to openly promote their business in our forums.

Forum sponsorships are usually set up on an auto-renew and the sponsor is grandfathered in to the program (meaning that you get first shot at it when renewal time comes up). Some of our forums have waiting lists for sponsors, so once you set one up with us it is usually in your best interest to hang on to it. Some of our sponsors have been with us for years.
