For some, camping means driving a motorhome to a paved campground, backing into a level parking area, hooking up the water and power, and relaxing on lawn chairs around a steel fire ring while pre-split spruce quarters give off a cheery glow. Owing to the limited road system, one of the most common methods of getting around Alaska is by light aircraft. According to sources, there is one airplane for every sixty people who live in Alaska. For many people, that's not a bad deal considering the sheer exhilaration it is to fly over remote wilderness where there are no shopping malls, no roads and no signs of human habitation.

All Terrain Vehicles

Alaska is an All-Terrain-Vehicle (ATV) owner's paradise. There are literally hundreds of miles of established trails, providing access to very remote areas that cannot even be accessed by aircraft or boat. Airplanes require flat, level, bare ground or flat water in such length to allow landing and take-off. Many areas in Alaska lack either, but they do have ATV trails.
