After only twenty minutes, my left arm started to throb from the stress of fighting the fish. Each time I gained line, the fish took most of it back. But, finally, the runs got shorter and shorter until at last, the deck hand grabbed the leader, and my first marlin emerged from the azure waters of the Gulf of California.
